"Where's me Jumper???!!!!!!!
"Dancing at the disco bumper to bumper, wait a minute, where's me jumper........WHERE'S ME JUMPEEEER??!!!! Ha ha! Remember it well as sung by the "Sultan's of Ping FC"
So you've guessed it! Today's post is all about knitwear. All kinds of knitwear modern, vintage, traditional and awful!!!!
Irish ladies are not known for their love of the "Woolly Jumper" or "Sweater" in more sophisticated company. I can't say I really blame them as it's a lot trickier to look stylish after donning a "jumper" than any other garment I can think of. Usually the bulkier they are, the warmer they are and hence, the more unflattering they are. One can't help but think that style is sacrificed for comfort! The fact that its probably the only garment your "mammy" was happy to see you wear as a teenager doesn't help either. Ha ha!
So where does Violinkit stand on this issue? I LOVE SWEATERS er! JUMPERS. I always have done . My earliest memories were cute childish pastel numbers, then my first "handmade" one that my mother knit me, when I was about ten. It was a mohair sweater with an amazing landscape scene. It had blue skies and sheep peacefully grazing in a nearby field. It was like wearing a painting on my little self, a true work of art from a very talented lady, that is my mom.
In my teenage years I was constantly embracing the"Brooding Bored Teenager" look in my father's oversized shabby but "oh so chic" sweaters. I quickly moved on to more fitted shapes and the "odd" cashmere gem.
Nowadays I have a large collection of "woolly wonders" modern, traditional and an amazing collection of 80's vintage gems. I hope that I can "convince" those of you that avoid this trend that not only can sweaters look "super cool" but that they are also an essential garment in everyone's winter wardrobe.
In this post I'm including photos of some 80's vintage sweaters and also the BEST of the high street.
Hope you enjoy !
