To Hat or Hat not...... 30 day blog post challenge!
Where did you get that hat................as my grandfather used to sing me, and one of my earliest style influences . My grandad could certainly rock a trilby and looked dapper in a panama. He loved his hats and I was hooked from an early age thanks to his old worlde charm and great style.
Hats have been around for a very long time and its impossible to say exactly when the first piece of cloth was pulled over the head to protect from the elements, however one of the first hats to be recorded was found on a tomb painting at Thebes and depicts a man wearing a coolie-style straw hat.
Other examples also found include the Pileus, a kind of simple skull cap, then there was the Phrygian cap, which became known as the "liberal" cap as it was given to slaves in Greece and Rome when they were given their freedom.
I'll continue the history of the hat in tomorrows post. In the meantime heres a few photos of my own collection. Talk soon XXX Violinkit
