Hello!

Welcome to my website! I'm Kathryn and I blog about  fusing Vintage and modern Fashion together to create a unique style. I am also passionate about slowing down the fast fashion industry  and hope to encourage others to do likewise through my posts showcasing  my personal style through the vintage and upcycled items that I have sourced.  I have now added a SHOP section to my website where you can purchase lots of sustainable goodies from clothing to china and everything in between! Through my upcycling  posts and crafted items I hope to encourage all of you to be mindful about what you throw away and to see that almost everything can be reused and made fresh and unique again through a little imagination.   I also blog about maintaining a healthy mental attitude through positivity and being mindful of how unique we are as individuals.

Comfy 1960s vintage hat!

Hi there folks continuing my post today on hats......

No prizes for guessing how obsessed Violinkit is with hats, as I'm sure you've noticed I'm rarely without one. In winter they're a practical and stylish way of protecting against the elements and in summer against the harmful rays of the sun......er! when its shining !!!!

The first known hat with a "brim" came from ancient Greece and was called a Petasos. Women from past histories were always expected to cover their heads by veils, hoods,  caps and wimples and it wasn't till the end of  the 16th century  that women started to wear structural hats. These hats were usually designed based on the hat styles that the male courtiers wore at the time.

It wasn't till the end of the 17th century that womens headgear began to emerge in its own right and the hats designed were no longer influenced by the latest male hat fashions of the day.

The word Milliner, maker of women's hats, was first recorded in 1529 where the term referred to the products for which Milan and the Italian regions were well known. By the mid 1800's hats were being made from swiss and Italian straw, imitation straw made from paper, cardboard, grass, and horsehair when available.

I'll continue my hat journey through time tomorrow.......

Till then ,Take Care XXX Violinkit   Below  other examples of my collection of hats... Hope you enjoy!
